    Tips for Thinning Brows

My own thinning brows above, I used to have thick almost mono brow, its a shock that I now need to add to them when I have been spending my life removing them. I see so many awful brows which make their owners look like a clown or an angry bird character. I want to shout NOOOOOO let me show you how to get a natural flattering brow. I hold back to prevent me getting verbal or physical abuse, this blog is my way of helping. Please pass on if you have a friend, child or acquaintance who may need some help.

Wrong Warm Brown . Wrong Dark Brow . Wrong 'Angry Bird' Brow

Three Steps to Achieve your Perfect Brow

    1. Choose a colour as close to your natural hair colour (even if it was your historic colour). Unless you have bright red hair avoid any warm brown colours. Only use dark brown or black if you have black hair or plan to be photographed as a model on a catwalk. Medium brown for the majority, light brown for fair and white hair.

    2. Measure, measure, measure, measure and measure again. Use a straight edge from the corner of your nose to the inner corner of the eye (D), mark with eye pencil on your brow. Line straight edge from nose to the outer corner of eye mark (F). Straight line outside of iris coloured part of eye mark again. (E) Using these starting points you can build your brow to create the exact shape for your unique face to frame your eyes perfectly.

    3. Apply powder in upward strokes gradually building up your shape using the marks to guide you. Once you have the shape use a stiff angled brush (or small tooth brush) through the brows. Fill in the gaps again with powder then use the stiff angled brush again.
3a. OR Apply a sharp pencil in upward fine strokes using the marks again.  Now use a
stiff angled brush through the pencil marks to create a natural look. Repeat until you
reach your perfect shape and colour.   There are new waterproof pencils or felt tips
available to make your strokes for your brows last through showers and swimming.

Top 10 Eyeliner Tips for Mature Eyes

Having a few creases myself,  ladies of a similar age feel safe asking me questions about make up and skin care.
I have been told I don't blog enough by a 21 year old I know! It's changing as from today, I will be adding blogs frequently to build up a useful collection of information for everyone who wants access professional advice.

    1. Use a 5x magnifier mirror you can't apply eyeliner with glasses on

    2. Apply a fine almost dotted line between the lashes, don't try drawing a line at stage 1

    3. Don't use a flick this will underline the loose skin around the eye

    4. Eye liner must be applied against the lashes. Stretch the eye lid upwards by lifting your eyebrow or gently stretch the skin upwards

    5. Apply liner with pencil or felt tip liner in light strokes close to the lashes, gradually moving along the lid close to the lashes. Don't try and draw a line, just overlay the feathery strokes until you achieve the line you want...

    6. Apply a fine line in the inner corner of the eye and thicker as you go outwards

    7. Don't apply moisturiser/serum/foundation on the eye lid it will make the liner
      smudge.

    8. Dark Brown/Navy and Dark Grey liners are more flattering colours for mature brunettes, blonds and greys.

    9. If you have overhanging lids make the liner thicker in the middle of the lid tapering thinner towards the inner corner and the outside of the eye.

    10. Blonds and Greys should not use black liner for day make up, it drains colour from the face and ages the eye area.

Menapause 'hope springs eternal' or 'hot springs internal'

Hurrah, I thought all my oil had disappeared !

At the very modest age of 54 I was delighted today to have an amazing spot (or pustule for my beauty therapy friends), prominently, very prominently on my chin. Instead of the expected menopausal double chin below the first one, I was growing one right out front on top of my existing one !  As the rest of my skin has to be refined  with AHA's and bathed in oil daily, then rubbed with cream, I feel this beautiful pustule will take years off me.  I may have to resist disguising it just to prove my oil glands still have some life left in them.

There is a 'however' to this tale. After the normal extraction of the spot, an application of my normal Priori AHA  skin renewal cream to the offending spot and the rest of my face as normal quickly dealt with the trophy spot.  I don't advise using this specialist cream on spots, mainly because you will squeal with pain. I do advise using it regularly to help the skin absorb the moisturiser you are using, even out pigmentation and stimulate the collagen fibres you have within your skin.  Now I sound like a professional skin therapist.

I will keep you updated on the progress of my teenage spot :)

    Successful Beauty Place Students

My lovely students working very hard during their manicure course.  The course successfully ended last night.  They have discovered many skills and stories from me during the course. From the simple white spots on nails does not mean lack of calcium just air in the nail plate from a simple knock to the cells that make the nail.  To never put nail varnish remover into nail varnish to thin it as it ruins the varnish, only use specific nail varnish thinners.

      Damage only air   Gloopy

    Electrolysis Explained

Electrolysis - Epilation - Diathermy - Galvanic - Blend - Thermolysis      all names used for permanent hair removal techniques !

Electrolysis is the only  permanent method of hair removal.  All other methods are called permanent hair Reduction this includes IPL and Laser. Electrolysis (epilation) targets individual hairs, most commonly treatment areas are on the face and neck. There are many causes of unwanted hair growth. A detailed consultation is carried out before any treatment to confirm that it is the correct treatment for you.
However in my experience there are a few obvious causes of unwanted hair growth:
    • Menopause
    • Inherited
    • Polycystic ovaries
    • Gender reassignment
I'm sure some of you will have struggled with the magnifying mirror in a bright light to find that prickly hair on your chin !

I have carried out electrolysis for 30 years, I am frequently asked the same questions by clients:

Does it hurt ?  Slight discomfort, it varies depending on where the hair is and your own discomfort threshold

After treatment the skin reaction? This depends on method used Blend/Galvanic reaction goes in 30 mins Diathermy the reaction can last 24hrs

Can I wear makeup after treatment ? Yes if applied over antiseptic gel

How can I treat hairs between treatments ? Hairs can be cut or shaved. Hair MUST NOT be plucked out if the hair is not visible its not treatable

How long will it take to remove the hairs permanently ? This depends on the strength of hair, level of current used, treatments carried out, skin reaction, hairs present see example below

Is it safe? Needles are sterilised and disposable.  All other equipment used is sanitised. Consultation carried out before any treatment ,you will be medically referred if considered necessary.  I am nationally and Internationally qualified and hold a professional insurance.

    HOW DOES IT WORK ?

Electrolysis works by placing a very fine needle down your hair follicle, where it heats the cells which produce the hair.  The cells are gradually destroyed, the hairs get finer and then stop growing.

An example of a treatment plan for Hairs on the upper lip and chin. Every individual will vary depending on hair and skin type.

This treatment plan can shorten dramatically if hairs are destroyed quickly.

4 to 6 weeks         Weekly appointments
4 to 6 weeks         Once every 2 weeks
6 to 9 weeks         Once every 3 weeks
    3 months              Once a month

    Teen Tags

Skin Tags and how to lose them..............

There is no age limit up or down for skin tags.  I have removed them from teenagers and elderly gentlemen. They live in family groups or all alone. Skin tags appear in areas of friction, e.g under arms, around the neck, eyelids, bra line, waist line and brief line and occasionally some cunningly escape and appear in other areas...
Small tags can be removed instantly, larger tags will shrink become darker and then fall off within one or two days.
The perfect example here is from my 19-year-old daughter's armpit.  She will be so pleased to have shared this with you all.

Before the lone Skin Tag                  The beautiful after arm pit

Once the tag is removed it will never return although there is a giant BUT. If you are prone to skin tags they will probably reappear after  several years.  As once they have made their home on you some will return. Much like children who go off to university I think. They will eventually return, hopefully, they will not be so unsightly, but no doubt they will be surrounded by friction.
I can not do anything about your university returnees, I can, however, banish your skin tags for many years.

Hairs & Blemishes in the wrong places ?

Having reached the age of 54 my body is exhibiting all the hairs and blemishes I have spent my working life advising and removing for clients.  Just desserts you may think :)
However, I feel I should turn this into a positive business opportunity. I have always empathised with my clients when removing Skin Tags or Red Veins, now I can be my own before and after catalogue open for viewing.

Haemangioma my neck before ! The after I carry with me......

Having specialised in advanced electrolysis for 25 years I have gained experience in treating a wide range of blemishes and removing unwanted hair.  Since escaping from lecturing in 2011, I have been carrying out treatments at The Beauty Place.

My blog will aim to help answer your questions relating to Beauty Therapy and Advanced Electrolysis. I will be posting all the new treatments available and trying to un-complicate all the advertising speak relating to products and treatments for you.
